Chomba Wa Ndau would comfortably win the Kirinyaga governorship if elections were held today, according to the latest survey by Kenya Track Survey.
The poll, conducted between 25 June and 25 July, engaged 2,076 registered voters across the county through a combination of telephone and house-to-house interviews. A significant majority of respondents expressed a clear preference for Chomba, who many described as an approachable grassroots leader with a visible presence in the day-to-day lives of ordinary citizens.

Can Chomba wa Ndau be Kirinyaga governor?
Chomba’s popularity, respondents said, is grounded in his development-first approach and reputation for clean, transparent leadership. His support for groups such as boda boda operators, youth associations and self-help groups was frequently mentioned as evidence of his practical concern for everyday challenges.
Many younger voters also pointed to his engaging social media presence, often delivered in local languages, as a refreshing shift from traditional political messaging. While Chomba leads, the poll shows that former woman representative Purity Ngirici remains a strong contender.
Respondents commended her track record on women’s rights and youth empowerment, citing her past initiatives during her term in office.
Her decision to part ways with President William Ruto’s UDA party was seen by many as a bold political move that underscores her commitment to local interests over party loyalty. Ngirici’s campaign is said to be well-organised, with a steady grassroots structure and continued support from women and small-scale traders.
Respondents described her as experienced, courageous and deeply rooted in the community, even as she faces stiffer competition this time around.

Senator Kamau Murango, who placed third in the survey, is also in the race and continues to draw support, particularly among rural voters.
Respondents acknowledged his efforts in promoting agriculture and supporting farmers, as well as his strong connections to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
His regular appearances at local functions and church events have kept him visible, and his stratec grassroots alliances are seen as a strength. With campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months ahead of the 2027 polls, the race is far from over.
