Speaking during the Jukwaa la Usalama event in Laikipia county, Murkomen stated that Gachagua, during his tenure as DP, requested funds to fight alcoholism.

"There are some who were in office back then. They asked for the Office of the Deputy President to be allocated funds to fight excessive alcohol consumption. Of course, the president set aside funds to fight alcoholism," Murkomen said.

Did Gachagua and wife misuse funds for fighting alcohol?

Murkomen suggested that Gachagua misallocated the funds, using them in only a few counties instead of distributing them nationwide to fight the menace of alcoholism as expected.

He additionally alleged that the remainder of the funds were given to Gachagua's spouse, Dorcas, in the name of rehabilitating young men addicted to drugs.

Murkomen further claimed that in the process, all the funds set aside for fighting alcoholism were used up by one family instead of bringing change to the county.

"All the money, iliisha. Ilikulwa kwa family moja in the name of fighting alcoholism. Now he is telling us that pombe imerudi because he is not there. If you had finished alcoholism in the country, then why is it back?" he questioned.

He highlighted that the best way to fight alcoholism is when the government continues the institutionalised fight against alcohol and drug abuse on the ground.

Addressing a congregation in Naivasha on December last year, Gachagua claimed that the increased death rates in the region due to the use of alcohol were a plan by President William Ruto to reduce the population of the vote-rich region.

While referencing the tragic death incidents in Nakuru, Kirinyaga and Embu counties, where young men died as a result of alcohol consumption, Gachagua pinned the blame on Ruto.

Did Gachagua blame Ruto for rise of alcoholism?

He alleged that Ruto was not impressed by his determination to end alcoholism in the region, claiming it was one of the reasons why they were on bad terms.
