Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has lashed out at President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration over the excessive use of force by the police.

On Saturday, August 2, police violently dispersed a political rally attended by the former DP's allies in Gilgil Town.

Did police teargas Rigathi Gachagua's allies?

Led by Nyandarua senator John Methu, Gachagua's allies gathered to address residents of Gilgil in Nakuru county moments before the police lobbed teargas canisters at the meeting.

A section of the residents were injured during the mayhem, as a section of the crowd attempted to resist the move by the police to disperse them.

Gachagua issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incident, which he claims was orchestrated by the president and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.,

"Once again, our team’s public participation meeting was rudely disrupted by the police, following clear instructions from Mr. William Ruto and his protégé Kipchumba Murkomen," Gachagua stated.

What did Rigathi Gachagua say about the Gilgil incident?

The former DP accused Ruto of using the security apparatus to steer the country towards a dictatorial path.

According to Gachagua, the opposition will remain committed to ensuring Ruto is defeated in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

"Mr. Ruto’s fear of the unknown is gradually steering our country towards a dictatorial path, where suppression and intimidation are becoming the tools of his playbook. Despite these cowardly actions by this failed regime, our resilience and commitment have shone brighter than ever," he added.

The former Mathira lawmaker rallied his allies not to be cowed by intimidation deployed by the Kenya Kwanza government, adding that the country will witness change in governance soon.

"To our team, it is always darkest before dawn. We will rewrite the wrongs and restore sanity to governance. Keep up the good work. Kenyans are ticking the box!" he stated.

Did police attack Gachagua's allies in Murang'a

This is not the first time police have blocked the opposition leaders from addressing political rallies.

Recently, armed police officers opened fire in an attempt to block Gachagua's allies from holding a political rally in Kigumo Town, Murang'a county.

Some of Gachagua's allies were injured after police and suspected goons attacked opposition leaders who had planned to address residents of the Kigumo constituency.

On Monday, July 28, the United Opposition front raised the matter with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
