Uhuru was spotted receiving a warm welcome and a State House tour from President William Ruto at the recent joint EAC-SADC meeting in Nairobi.
Kenyan pilot and political analyst Iain Njiraini says the meet up has reignited discussions about Uhuru's influence and the shifting political ground in Central Kenya.
Reacting through a video posted on Instagram, Njiraini said the move, though possibly apolitical in intention, has confused many in the region, where voters remain split over whom to trust and what direction to take politically.
“Even though it may not have been a political statement, it has caused a stir among the people of Central region. Some are a very confused lot. Some saying if Uhuru says we follow a certain path, we will follow. Others saying if he says we follow Ruto, we will not follow. Interesting,” Njiraini observed.
He added that a number of voters are now reflecting on the former president’s past warnings, which were largely ignored ahead of the 2022 polls.
“Many are saying, he warned us before, maybe it's time to listen to him. Again. The amount of influence Uhuru still has among the people in the Central region is interesting,” he added.

Who will Uhuru Kenytatta support in 2027?
Although Uhuru has largely avoided political commentary since leaving office, Njiraini says the former head of state may choose to remain silent as the 2027 General Election approaches.
“I think he will not say anything to support any candidate in the upcoming General Election, because we never listened as a people when he warned us. So he will sit back and watch,” he said.
Njiraini's comments highlight the uneasy political mood in Mt Kenya, where shifting allegiances, generational change, and memories of past leadership continue to influence public opinion.
