Oscar Sudi Challenges Gachagua to Hold Joint Meeting with Kenyans, Asks Him to Extend US Tour

  • Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi accused former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua of promoting tribal politics, urging him to hold an inclusive meeting with all Kenyans in the US
  • In a video message to Kenyans abroad, Sudi said Gachagua’s impeachment and rejection by fellow leaders were tied to his alleged ethnic bias
  • Sudi claimed Gachagua’s absence from Kenya had eased political tensions, protests, and what he described as the distribution of small cash handouts to incite unrest
  • He suggested the former DP extend his US stay, saying his return could reignite divisions, likening his absence to water extinguishing a fire

In a strongly worded video statement posted on Monday, August 11, Sudi accused Gachagua of fuelling tribal divisions in Kenya and the diaspora.

He told Kenyans in the US to assess Gachagua’s actions carefully, without bias, and to recognise what he described as the destabilising effect of his politics.

"Kenyans here in America, there is something I want you to analyse and then judge it fairly. And do not use tribalism or hate; just use the truth of the matter. Since he arrived here, and I want you to look at the first state he landed in. Analyse his affairs slowly, without rushing," Sudi said, in an apparent dig at Gachagua’s itinerary in US.

He reiterated that the former DP’s impeachment by parliament and rejection by other leaders were not without cause.

"When we say this person is tribal, not a leader, and was not impeached for nothing by MPs and Senators, and was not rejected for nothing by many leaders who met with him, analyse his statements slowly; they are purely tribal," Sudi said.

How did Sudi dare Gachagua?

He told Kenyans in the US that their unity abroad should not be disrupted by ethnic politics, reminding them that they've always stayed united.

"Kenyans here in the US, I know you are united. When you meet, you remember where you came from and that you came here to seek opportunities; you do not have tribalism," he said.

The Kapseret MP directly appealed to Gachagua to convene an inclusive meeting with all Kenyans in the US rather than engaging only with specific ethnic communities.

"I want to request you, my brothers here in the US, and I am also around. Riggy G, please organise a meeting we can have with you for all Kenyans; stop this thing where you are balkanising people, saying your people or your community. Please arrange one meeting for all Kenyans instead of putting some Kenyans in one corner and others in another," the MP suggested.

Why should Gachagua extend US stay?

Sudi claimed that Gachagua’s exit from Kenya had created a noticeable shift in the country’s political climate.

According to him, protests, political tension, and the alleged distribution of small cash handouts to incite unrest had vanished.

"He is someone who can set the country on fire, an inciter and 99.9% a liar. He was a very close friend of mine. Even those of you who have spent a short time with him will have question marks. He is a very dangerous person. And look, since he left Kenya, there has been complete peace. There is no one giving people KSh 20 to do this, burn that, do the other… in fact, let him just stay here longer," Sudi said.

The legislator added that Gachagua’s absence was "like water being poured on a fire, suggesting that his return could reignite tensions.

"Stay, my brother, just stay," Sudi urged.

Will Gachagua be arrested on return to Kenya?

In a separate report, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen fired a sharp rebuke at Gachagua over his recent incendiary allegations linking Ruto with al-Shabaab.

Murkomen dismissed Gachagua’s claims as sensational, warning they would be treated as "comedy and caricature" unless he formally records them with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upon returning from the US.

He further suggested that if Gachagua refuses, his mental health and credibility could justifiably come under scrutiny, labelling him “either a pathological liar or someone who needs medical attention."
