Speaking on Thursday, August 14, during Ruto’s meeting with grassroots leaders from Migori county at Sony Sugar Green Stadium in Awendo, Junet recounted remarks allegedly made by Uhuru during an Azimio parliamentary group meeting shortly after the 2022 elections.
The legislator said the meeting took place at Masai Lodge and was attended by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Uhuru, then serving as the coalition’s chairman.

According to Junet, Uhuru told those present that the country’s economic state was so dire that Ruto’s administration would be forced to give up within three months.
"We as Azimio people had a parliamentary group meeting in a place called Masai Lodge. In that meeting, my party leader came, Baba Raila Amolo Odinga, and the chairman of Azimio, who was former president Uhuru Kenyatta. And the former president spoke there and said about how the country’s economic situation was, that he had given this government three months,' Junet said.
Did Junet wait for Ruto's downfall?
He narrated that he initially believed Uhuru’s prediction, even starting to count the days for the Kenya Kwanza administration to collapse.
Junet stated that to him at the time, Ruto's government's collapse would give Azimio the chance to take over the country's leadership.

Toxic Lyrikali slammed by fans after endorsing William Ruto's 2nd term: "Mimi si backbencher”
He stated that after a long wait, he found respite in the working agreement between Ruto and Raila in 2024.
"I said to myself, so our seat can return after three months, and I started clapping. He said three months, for economic matters, these people will raise their hands up. I started counting the days. First month, nothing, second month, nothing, third month, nothing. Fourth month, nothing, until God brought broad-based. I then said to myself, so this is what God was planning," he added, in reference to Ruto’s economic turnaround efforts," he stated.
How did Ruto revive Kenya's economy?
Junet said that despite being in opposition at the time, he recognised the severe economic challenges the country was facing when Ruto assumed power.
"Kenya was in a debt trap. Kenya was, you know, we were saying at that time, even those who were completely opposing you, we were saying these people will default. It’s not if, it is when. They must default; they cannot pay the debt," he recalled.

He said difficult policy choices had turned around the situation, contrasting it with the period when the exchange rate was climbing rapidly.
Why did Mbadi warn Raila?
Elsewhere, Treasury CS John Mbadi raised a cautionary flag to Raila, warning against placing trust in Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mbadi suggested Uhuru's recent opposition to working with Ruto is ill-timed and insincere.
He argued that if the former president truly supported Raila, he would have helped him in 2022, emphasising that abandoning that critical moment, Uhuru lacks credibility now.
