Gachagua departed Kenya on July 9 and was to stay in the US for at least two months.

However, on Thursday, August 14, Gachagua revealed that he planned to return to Kenya before his trip ended.

Why Oscar Sudi is unhappy at Gachagua

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) said Gachagua was returning to organise his side ahead of the November by-elections.

Reacting to Gachagua's change of plans, Sudi was concerned that the former deputy president was returning to disrupt peace in the country.

Sudi claimed that Kenya was peaceful during the days Gachagua had been outside the country.

The MP also asserted that Gachagua's decision to cut short his trip was because of the former's presence in the US.

Earlier, Sudi had challenged Gachagua to an intellectual engagement on the issues pertinent to Kenya.

He concluded that the DCP leader was bowing out of the challenge, hence his abrupt decision to fly back to Kenya.

"The moment I challenged you to a one-on-one showdown, you chickened out and are fleeing back home to cause chaos among peace-loving Kenyans. Come on, Mr. Tribal Chief, step up and show some courage," Sudi tweeted.

Is government plotting against Gachagua?

Meanwhile, Gachagua's party alleged a sinister plan by the government to harm him.

In a formal communication, DCP alleged that certain government officials and their associates are orchestrating a scheme to reroute the former deputy president’s flight, preventing him from landing in Nairobi.

The move is reportedly aimed at avoiding a potentially enthusiastic welcome accorded to Gachagua once he touches down in the capital.

DCP’s deputy leader, Cleophas Malala, accused Belgut MP Nelson Koech, who chairs the National Assembly’s Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee, of coordinating the efforts to interfere with Gachagua's flight.

Where would Gachagua land?

Malala claimed the flight would be redirected to alternative destinations outside Nairobi, such as Kisumu or Mombasa.

The party went further to claim that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen are involved in the broader conspiracy to harm Gachagua.

Malala alleged that there are intentions to eliminate the DCP leader, stating that plans are underway to detain Gachagua under house arrest, where he would eventually be killed.

DCP issued a stern warning, declaring that any successful attempt on Gachagua’s life would "grind the nation to a halt".

Why CS Murkomen hinted at Gachagua's arrest

Speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet on August 9, the CS angrily took on Gachagua, whom he accused of reckless talk while in the US.

This was after Gachagua claimed that President William Ruto had met the representatives of al-Shabaab in Mandera.

He said such evidence would be instrumental in the probe into Kenya's non-NATO ally status sought by a US senator.

Murkomen was not happy with the sentiments.

The CS said Gachagua would be required to record a statement as soon as he lands in Kenya.
