Their strategies include courting viable players from the rival camps to strengthen their own as they target electoral success.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at bringing Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna to his camp in the opposition.
Is Edwin Sifuna still in ODM?
Sifuna, who is also the ODM secretary general, has lately been carrying himself like a political free agent, with the indication of defying some of the party's resolutions, including that of working with President William Ruto.

As a matter of fact, the senator has declared that he would quit his ODM post should the party make it official to support Ruto's reelection.
Kalonzo met him in Kwale during the 2025 Annual Law Society of Kenya Conference.
The Wiper leader intimated at influencing Sifuna into his fold.
"Had a really productive chat with Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna at the LSK Annual Conference in Kwale this afternoon. Exchanged numbers – I have a feeling this connection could lead to some exciting things," he said.
Sifuna has been meeting political players far from ODM; some of his colleagues in the party have dubbed him a mole working for the opposition.
The tough-talking senator has sustained his sentiment against Ruto's regime even as his colleagues pour out their hearts to the president.
According to Sifuna, Ruto has run down the country and ought to be defeated in 2027.

Can Sifuna work with Gachagua?
While appearing on a television interview, a question was posed to the Nairobi senator on whether he could work with the current opposition principals.
Sifuna did not explicitly say he would work with any, but he made it clear that he would partner with whoever supports the cause to oust Ruto.

According to the senator, every leader, regardless of their past, is instrumental in that mission.
He therefore did not rule out working with Gachagua or any of the opposition honchos should they conform to the mission of challenging Ruto's reelection bid.
Is Edwin Sifuna forming an alternative movement?
Sifuna has been engaging with fellow lawmakers who are distancing themselves from traditional political formations.
The emerging group comprises leaders who are departing from the camps of Ruto, Raila Odinga, and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

The new political outfit, named Kenya Moja, was officially unveiled on Sunday, August 3, by Sifuna alongside Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.
Other members include Kabuchai Majimbo MP Kalasinga, Bumula’s Jack Wamboka, Joshua Kimilu of Kaiti, and ODM’s Clive Gisairo representing Kitutu Masaba.
While Kenya Moja stands in opposition to Ruto’s administration, it has not aligned itself with the factions led by Gachagua or Kalonzo.
This signals the formation of a distinct bloc within the broader opposition landscape.
