The opposition led by Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i are eyeing to unseat President William Ruto.

However, the headache for the opposition team will be on how to arrive at a presidential candidate to face Ruto in the upcoming poll.

Initially, the opposition team set up a group of experts to help identify the right candidate who can easily defeat Ruto in 2027.

But now, Nyakera has unveiled what he termed a dream lineup to guarantee the opposition the win in 2027.

Nyakera said his lineup brings Kenya's diversity and drives the country towards unity, something never seen before.

"My vision for a team that can take Ruto home in early 2027 is one that reflects the true face of Kenya: Such a balanced formation would bring together Kenya’s diversity and drive us toward a unity never witnessed before. Therefore, as you go to church today, I beseech you to pray for wisdom for our nation - that God may guide us as we choose leaders who will unite, not divide, and lead Kenya into a brighter future," Nyakera said.

Who will be the opposition's flagbearer in 2027?

According to Nyakera, the Kamba community should produce the presidential candidate deputised by a Kisii politician.

Nyakera says the Mt Kenya community should take the National Assembly Speaker and the Nairobi governor position.

Nyakera, who is eying the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, argued that the Luo community should produce the speaker of the Senate, while the Luhya community should produce the Nairobi senator.

He added that the Nairobi deputy governor should come from the Kamba community, while the woman representative should be from the Kisii community.

From Nyakera's lineup, it implies that Kalonzo will be the opposition's presidential candidate, deputised by Matiang'i.

As part of the political deal, ODM loyalists, including former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya were appointed to Cabinet positions.

This move has left the opposition fractured, with Ruto insisting his approach represents a “broad-based government,” while critics argue it has weakened checks and balances.

This move has however, left him without the vote-rich Mt Kenya region following the impeachment of Gachagua as his deputy.
