On Monday, August 18, Ruto and Raila chaired a joint ODM-Kenya Kwanza Alliance Parliamentary Group meeting at Karen.

Why Moses Kuria is unhappy with Ruto and Raila

Reacting to the meeting's outcome, Kuria criticised the two leaders for the slow implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

Kuria stated that he hoped the implementation of NADCO would have resulted in a referendum in 2027 to resolve Kenya's recurring political crises.

"I was clinging to the hope that the NADCO process will culminate in a referendum, most likely as the 7th ballot during the 2027 General Election. Why? Because, as I have said before, we have a malignant tumour in our body politic which we keep trying to heal through anaesthesia such as handshake, broad-based etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseam," Kuria said.

Will NADCO be the same as BBI?

However, the former Trade CS said the joint PG meeting was reduced to a dowry payment to ODM by UDA without the involvement of other Kenya Kwanza Alliance constituent parties.

"Sadly, what I saw yesterday was an otherwise promising national moment being reduced to a dowry paid by UDA to ODM. Not even other constituent parties in both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were consulted," he added.

Kuria, a former senior economic advisor to Ruto, warned that the NADCO report risks collapsing like the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) during former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

"We are treading on a trodden path littered with corpses like BBI. The last chapter of NADCO will be a replica of BBI," he stated.

What Ruto-Raila discussed during the PG meeting

As reported earlier, the president said the joint ODM-Kenya Kwanza PG meeting was a turning point for progressive leadership in the country.

At the centre of the PG meeting was the 10-point agenda agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ODM and UDA.

The agenda of the meeting also touched on economic recovery, job creation, lowering the cost of living, electoral reforms, youth and women empowerment, strengthening devolution, and anti-corruption measures.

However, the meeting did not end well as the MPs expressed their displeasure with the remarks made by the president and the ODM leader.

For instance, the president lectured the MPs, accusing them of promoting corruption by allegedly demanding millions from national executive officials.

On his part, Raila demanded the scrapping of the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
