Speaking on Kameme TV on Tuesday, August 19, Njiru claimed Matiang'i was President William Ruto's project.
Is Fred Matiang'i Ruto's project?
Njiru, a close supporter of the former DP, suggested that Matiang'i's presidential bid was a creation of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to aid Ruto's reelection bid.

"Matiang'i is a state project. Gen Z said they are party-less, leader-less, then suddenly they started hyping up Matiang'i. Matiang'i is an NIS project," Njiru claimed.
Njiru questioned Matiang'i's commitment to joint opposition activities, citing instances where the former CS had allegedly declined to participate in collective political tours.
The vocal lawyer claimed the former Interior CS refused to allow the opposition leaders to tour the Kisii region alongside him.
"When we were touring the country, we didn't get to go to Kisii because Matiang'i said he wasn't ready to return home; he didn't even come to Narok with us. Then he came back from the USA and didn't tell us, but went ahead to Meru, but he denied us the right to go to Kisii," the lawyer claimed.
Njiru later issued an apology and retracted his sentiments after he faced criticism from Matiang'i's supporters.
Did Ndegwa Njiru apologise?
In a tweet, the vocal lawyer disclosed his conversation with the former Interior CS, who reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition's course.

Who should be the opposition's presidential candidate in 2027?
In related news, Irungu Nyakera, a close associate of the former deputy president, unveiled a lineup that he said could defeat Ruto in 2027.
In the list, Nyakera suggested that the opposition's presidential candidate should come from the Kamba community and his running mate from the Kisii community.
Going by Nyakera's lineup, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will be the opposition's flagbearer with Matiang'i as his running mate.
