Kenyans React After Gathoni Wamuchomba Hints at Plans to Impeach Ruto

Her statement came amid uproar from Members of Parliament over President William Ruto's allegations against them.

The head of state had previously accused the MPs and senators of collecting bribes from those who approached them to pass or reject certain bills.

Expressing their disapproval with Ruto's remarks, senators, including Edwin Sifuna and Moses Kajwang', demanded that the Speakers Moses Wetang'ula of the National Assembly and Amason Kingi of the Senate summon the head of state.

They argued that the move would be to ensure that Ruto provides the Parliament with evidence on the allegations he made.

On the other hand, Ruto's close ally, the Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah, threatened him with an impeachment motion.

Ichung'wah stated that the members of the National Assembly have the power to oust any member of the Executive, including the president.

Did Wamuchomba hint at plans to impeach Ruto?

Wamuchomba joined her colleagues on their onslaught against Ruto by seemingly hinting at a looming impeachment.

While she did not mention the head of state, she hinted at enjoying the ongoing tensions between the executive and the legislature.

"Impeachment season two Loading ………….loving the melody," Gathoni Wamuchomba's statement read.

Kenyans took to social media to respond to Wamuchomba's statement, with some questioning whether the Parliament can impeach the head of state.

Did Nelson ask MPs to impeach Ruto?

Wamuchomba's remarks came hours after the former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi asked legislators to impeach Ruto if at all they were offended by his bribery allegations.

Havi took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to argue that the situation demanded accountability from either the Executive or the legislature.
