Why did opposition leaders miss Gachagua's homecoming
Following this, the DCP deputy leader, Cleophas Malala, has set the record straight on why the members of the United Opposition were not present at ex-DP's homecoming.
While addressing the press on Saturday, August 23, Malala dismissed claims that there are cracks in the opposition.
He stated that the opposition principles were supposed to be part of the group that received Gachagua and the JKIA, but plans changed at the last minute.
Malala further stated that they received intelligence that there were plans to block the leaders from accessing the Kamukunji grounds.
"Yesterday, we invited all the leaders in the united opposition, and their not coming to the airport was strategic. We already had information that they would want to block all of us in one place. So we had agreed that the other principals would join us in the rally. The reception was simply a party affair, and then the rally was now a joint event," Malala told TV7.

Additionally stated that they also didn't want Gachagua to appear as the de facto leader, given that the opposition has not settled on a flagbearer.
I know it is the wish of the other side for us to be divided, but we want to assure our supporters that we are united. Today, as you can see, we had planned to go and watch the Hrmbee stars match, but we've received a lot of intimidation. Police have been deployed to block us," he added.
Gachagua and Kalonzo allayed fears of cracks in the opposition on Friday, August 22, when the two met at the former DP's Karen residence.
The two watched the Harambee Stars vs Madagascar match while backed by their close allies.
