Ter Stegen splits with wife
On Friday, Ter Stegen shared a statement on his Instagram confirming his separation from Daniela after eight years of marriage.
The pair met in 2012 and have two children together.
"After careful consideration, Dani and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not an easy one, as you can imagine, but we both believe it is the best step for us," the statement read.
"Our joint focus is on doing what is best for our children, ensuring they continue to have a loving and stable environment. We remain committed to working together as parents and treating each other with respect and appreciation as we always have."
The German star is still recovering after he ruptured the patellar tendon on his right knee in September against Villarreal.
What happened between Dani and Ter Stegen?
According to Spanish outlet Ara, rumours about their separation emerged following the 32-year-old's injury in September.
The report adds that in recent weeks, rumours suggested that the goalkeeper was living in a hotel after leaving his mansion where he lived with his family.
Another sign that things weren't going well in their marriage is they stopped sharing photos together on social media.
However, they've continued to share pictures of their children Ben, five, and Tom, one.
Their relationship started in 2012 when Ter Stegen began his professional career at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Two years later, he joined Barcelona and moved with Daniela to the city.
Five years after their relationship became official, they married in a ceremony in Sitges and then a religious wedding in Tuscany, with friends and colleagues in attendance.
