Things quickly got out of hand when fans from both sides began clashing in the stands.

Gor Mahia FKF breaks silence on the Gusii chaos
Minutes after the game, Gor Mahia addressed the chaos witnessed at Gusii Stadium through a statement shared on their official Facebook page.
The club expressed deep concern over the unfortunate scenes that unfolded before kickoff, revealing that 66 fans were confirmed injured and admitted to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) and RAM Hospital.
According to the club, police confirmed that two of the injured fans sustained skull fractures. Gor Mahia wished a quick recovery to all those affected.
"We witnessed very sad moments at Gusii Stadium before the game as fans engaged in chaos; as a result, police confirmed 66 fans got injured and were admitted to KTRH and RAM Hospital in Kisii. Two fans sustained skull fractures. Quick recovery to all our fans who got injured," a statement read on Gor Mahia facebook page.
In a different statement, the club placed the blame fairly on FKF, who ignored their pleas not to play the game at Gusii stadium.
"However, upon the meeting between officials from Shabana and Gor Mahia officials, security agencies, Azam representatives, SSOs, and the Match Commissioner, we were shocked when he revised his position. Despite the OCPD advising against proceeding with the match due to safety concerns, the Commissioner stated he had received instructions from FKF to go ahead at all costs. This raises a critical question: how can someone sitting in Nairobi overrule those on the ground who fully understand the risks and realities on site?"
