United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur to bring to an end a very calamitous season.
Bruno Fernandes ready to quit United
They will play Aston Villa on the final day of the season at Old Trafford, but that game will have no impact on the Red Devils' season.
Speaking after the loss in Bilbao, Fernandes admitted he could leave the club this summer, but left the decision in the hands of the club.
" I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go, I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days. If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in, it is what it is," said a devastated Fernandes via BBC Sport.
Manchester United players beg Fernandes not to leave
It has since emerged that some United players have privately reached out to their captain and begged him not to leave the club.
The Portuguese international is widely appreciated as the only elite performer in the United squad despite their struggles this season.
"Bruno may be criticised, but the players know what a talent he is. He can be demanding, but they all respect him and sent him messages letting him know how valued he is. If he leaves, the dressing room would fall apart," a source told The Sun.
Which clubs could Bruno Fernándes join?
Fernandes is only 30 years old at still at the peak of his powers, there is general expectation that he won't be short of suitors should United put him on the market.
At the moment, Al-Hilal are understood to be ready to break the transfer record and sign a marquee player. The Saudi giants are yet to replace Neymar, whose spell in the Middle East didn't go as planned.
The club had planned to lure Mohamed Salah to the East with a hefty package, but the Egyptian made a u-turn and extended his contract at Liverpool.
Fernandes has now emerged as the potential option to fill this gap. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are the other clubs interested.
How selling Bruno Fernandes could help Manchester United
While he is undoubtedly the most important player in the squad, selling him could also have its advantages. Daily Mail reports that Al-Hilal could offer as much as £100m for a player whose contract expires in 2027 and is past 30 years.

Given that they won't be in the Champions League, United are in desperate need of the cash to rebuild and can only raise funds by selling their current players.
Other players Manchester United could sell
Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans will leave the club upon the expiration of their contracts this summer, which will free up the wage bill.
Apart from Fernandes, Casemiro is another high earner whose exit could help United in balancing their wage structure. The Brazilian only has one year left on his contract, and the club could move in to cash in on him immediately. The former Real Madrid star has previously been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, as reported by TalkSPORT.
Marcus Rashford and Antony will also return to the club this summer after loan deals at Aston Villa and Real Betis, respectively. They have performed better on loans and could fetch some amount of money if put on the market.
Garnacho told to find new club
In a related report, Amorim has told Alejandro Garnacho to leave Manchester United and find another club.
The Argentine winger threw a tantrum after he was dropped from the Europa League starting XI against Tottenham Hotspur.
He then later criticised Amorim in his post-match remarks, with his brother/agent also adding fuel to the fire with a damaging message on Instagram.
