What was supposed to be a joyful day for Liverpool fans turned chaotic after a car ploughed into a crowd of them during the trophy parade.

What happened at Liverpool's title parade?

The fans had come out in their numbers to celebrate winning a record-equalling Premier League triumph during an open-air bus parade with the players on Monday, May 26.

A car rammed into a crowd of jubilant fans, leaving scores injured in the shocking incident along Water Street in the Liverpool City Centre.

As the car sped into the densely populated narrow street, witnesses reported hearing the horrible thud of people being thrown over the bonnet and the horrifying screams of victims.

According to witnesses, the car hit men, women, and even a baby as it sped across the street, turning right and then left before hitting the pavement.

Another eyewitness said the collision happened roughly 10 minutes after the bus carrying the Liverpool players had passed by.

Have any arrests been made so far?

Police have confirmed that a 53-year-old man believed to be the driver has been arrested. Merseyside police chief Jenny Sims also confirmed that they were treating it as an isolated incident and not terrorism, and therefore weren't looking for anyone else.

"A number of people have been injured and taken to the hospital. In addition, a large number of people of all ages were treated at the scene who did not require hospital treatment," as captured by Sky Sports.

Were there any casualties in the Liverpool incident?

No deaths have been reported from the terrifying incident, but at least 47 people, including four children, have been left injured and are receiving treatment.

"Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror. The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times. Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool," said Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

What has Liverpool, Premier League said about the car crash?

The club released a statement offering support to the injured ones while confirming they were in direct contact with the police.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."

The Premier League shared a similar message.

"Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected."

How Premier League clubs supported Liverpool

Leading Premier League clubs also sent messages of support. Everton and Manchester United, which are historically Liverpool's greatest football rivals, led from the front.

"Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city," said Everton.

Manchester United:

"Our thoughts are with Liverpool and the city of Liverpool after today’s awful incident."

Chelsea:

"Everyone at Chelsea Football Club's thoughts are with Liverpool Football Club and those impacted following the horrific incident in the city today."

Manchester City:

"The thoughts of everyone at Manchester City are with those injured or affected by the incident at Liverpool’s title-winning parade earlier today."

Basketball star LeBron James, who is also a minority owner at Liverpool, also condemned the act and sent his support.

"OMG!!!! My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected who attended Liverpool's Premier League trophy parade today! Such a senseless act!"
