The Italian side were thrashed 5-0 to record the worst-ever defeat in Champions League final history.

Simone Inzaghi's side were carefully and ruthlessly torn apart by an unforgiving PSG team at the Munich Arena in Germany.

Desire Doue was a constant thorn in the flesh for the Nerazzurri, scoring twice and creating one as they ran riot to win their first Champions League trophy.

Big switch: UEFA to make major Champions League change after Arsenal complaints

It was an unexpected result as many thought it would be an evenly-contested match given what we have seen this season.

Inter Milan came through by knocking out Feyenoord in the Round of 16 before seeing off Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. They delivered the best game the Champions League has ever seen in the thrilling 7-6 win against Barcelona in the semi-finals.

So to collapse in the manner they did against PSG was unfathomable, with Gianluigi Donnarumma largely a pedestrian for most of the game.

How Inter Milan players were received in Milan

The players received a cold reception in Milan after only one fan showed up to receive them at the Malpensa Airport.

"I'm the only idiot here, but they still deserve applause," said the fan named Marco, according to Gazzetta via ESPN.

Odd move: Why Inter Milan star wore boots with hole in Champions League final

"Awful night. But when you look back on the Champions League campaign, Inter beat the champions of Germany and the champions of Spain. And they did that on West Ham wages as well. Came up short and had a terrible performance to finish the campaign off. But they did me proud."

Juice Wrld:

"We are not blaming you, and no one should blame Inter Milan; their job was to eliminate Barcelona in the Champions League, and they did it easily."

Superliga Spottet:

"To lose like this and set a negative record for the biggest UCL final defeat is devastating. But let this not define you; let your response do that. It’s been a razor-close season, and you faced possibly the best team ever in a final."

Wade Parker:

"Why did Inter bother showing up? Absolutely pathetic display. Just disgraceful. Inter really saved the worst for last. That whole team and the coach should be fined their entire salary for the month."

Trophy drama: Why PSG won't be allowed to keep Champions League trophy

Inter Milan's 2024/2025 season

The Champions League final loss was the final nail in Inter Milan's coffin as they ended the 2024/2025 season trophyless.

Inter lost the Italian Super Cup to city rivals AC Milan before losing to the same opponents in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Their former manager, Antonio Conte, then ended their hopes of retaining their Serie A title after he guided Napoli to the Scudetto.

What next for Inter Milan?

The Nerazzurri will be in action in the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America from June 15.

They will play Mexican side Monterrey, Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds, and Argentina's River Plate in Group E.

Inzaghi's long-term future is also still up in question, with numerous reports linking him to a move to Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal. Club president Giuseppe Marotta has reiterated that they intend to keep Inzaghi if he wants to continue at the San Siro.
