Who are the FIFA Club World Cup contenders?

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami opened the FIFA Club World Cup with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The biggest story of the tournament so far was Bayern Munich's 10-0 victory over Auckland City in their opening match.

European sides are favoured to win the tournament. PSG, the 2025 Champions League winners, along with Real Madrid and Manchester City, are seen as the top contenders.

The 2023 European champions have made several high-profile signings to bolster a squad that struggled in the Premier League last season.

They registered a comfortable win over Wydad Casablanca in their first game.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have a new coach in Xabi Alonso, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen less than a month ago.

They were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in their opening match by Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.

South American sides, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, River Plate, Boca Juniors, and Botafogo are also seen as potential contenders.

Manchester City are the second favourites, with a 17.8% chance of winning, while Bayern Munich follow closely in third with a 12.8% chance.

Inter Milan have a 13.3% chance following a humiliating 5-0 defeat in the Champions League final.

Real Madrid are the fifth favourites with a 9.8% chance. The La Liga giants have lifted five of the last Club World Cup tournaments, though this was when the competition featured seven teams.

Chelsea, the UEFA Conference League champions, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Benfica all have at least a 3.3% chance of winning it.

The winner will take home $40 million (approximately KSh 5 billion). With financial regulations tightening, this prize money will be a significant boost for the teams.
