UEFA rules on multi-club ownership
The multi-club ownership rules have been the topic of discussion in the past two seasons, as UEFA looks to promote fair play by preventing two clubs owned by the same person or entity from competing in the same competition.
Manchester United avoided being banned from the Europa League after their minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, put his Nice shares into a blind trust.

Crystal Palace are still waiting for UEFA's decision to know if they will be allowed to compete in next season's Europa League. One of Palace's owners has a controlling influence at Lyon, who also also qualified for the Europa League.
Clubs UEFA banned from Champions League
At least four teams have previously been banned from competing in the Champions League for different reasons.
1. Besiktas - 2012/2013
The Turkish giants were slapped with a one-year ban from UEFA competitions for their alleged involvement in domestic match fixing during their 2011 Turkish Cup final win over Büyükşehir Belediyespor.
Their appeal was thrown out by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) as Norway's Tromso replaced them.
2. Fenerbahce
Their rivals were also implicated in the same ruling and were replaced by the Cypriot side Apoel in the Europa League. They had initially started their journey in the Champions League but lost the last qualification round to Arsenal.
3. Juventus - 2023
More recently, Juventus were kicked out of the Champions League after they flouted UEFA's financial regulations.
The Old Lady were first docked 10 points, which saw them drop from second place to seventh in the Serie A table.
Seventh place would still have been enough for the Conference League, but UEFA followed it up by banning them from all competitions.
"Juventus violated UEFA’s regulatory framework and breached the settlement agreement signed in August 2022. As a result, the CFCB First Chamber terminated the settlement agreement concluded with the club and decided to exclude Juventus from the 2023/24 UEFA men’s club competition," read the statement.

4. FK Pobeda - 2009 -2017
The biggest such ban was handed to North Macedonian side FK Pobeda, who were handed an eight-year ban from all UEFA competitions in 2009.
Pobeda were found guilty of manipulating the outcome of a match between them and Armenia’s FC Pyunik five years earlier in a Champions League qualifier.
Additionally, club president Aleksandar Zabrcanec and player Nikolce Zdraveski were banned from all football-related activities for life.
"The charges brought against FK Pobeda were based on reports received from the betting industry on irregular betting patterns and the declarations of several witnesses," read the UEFA ruling.
Why Crystal Palace could be kicked out of Europe
Crystal Palace are facing the prospect of missing out on the Europa League next season.
Palace made history by qualifying for Europe for the first time after they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final. However, they now face an anxious wait to know whether they will be allowed to participate.
The South Londoners are owned by John Textor, who also owns French club Lyon. Lyon qualified for the Europa League as well, and according to UEFA rules, both clubs can't play in the same competition.
Palace could get a reprieve after Textor sold his Palace shares, while Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2 and could get kicked out of European football altogether.
Why Arsenal, Liverpool didn't qualify for Club World Cup
In a separate report, we explained why Arsenal and Liverpool won't play at the Club World Cup.
The two Premier League giants are among the many big clubs that were left behind when the competition began in the USA on June 15.
Manchester City and Chelsea are the only English representatives.
