Cunha is Man United's only major signing for next season. He arrived from Wolves in June and recently took Rashford's number.

The Brazilian is expected to play a key role in Ruben Amorim's attacking unit next season. Having scored 15 Premier League goals last term, he is expected to help improve an attack that managed just 44 league goals.

Moreover, he produced moments of brilliance that helped Wolves survive relegation. Therefore, he is likely to play as a left-sided forward, a position formerly held by Rashford at Old Trafford.

Some fans and analysts have raised concerns about his attitude, which saw him get banned for several games last season.

"Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt," he said in his first interview.

What did Cunha say about taking Rashford's shirt?

Next season, the Brazilian will wear the No. 10 shirt, following in the footsteps of Manchester United legends such as Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, George Best, and Sir Bobby Charlton.

“Of course, I think the one that I always think about when I see this number in this shirt for me was Wayne Rooney. He was someone that I grew up to watch him play and I have [watched] many games now."

He revealed he exchanged shorts with Rashford and also highlighted other players who wore the shirt.

“Then, of course, the responsibility is coming, and I hope I can do everything like goals, assists and help the team."

Why is Marcus Rashford leaving Man United?

The 27-year-old England international last played for his boyhood club in December 2024 and was later told to find a new club. Amorim sent him out on loan in January to Aston Villa.

Since producing a career-best season in 2022/23, his form has regressed significantly. In 2022/23, he scored 30 goals and helped the club win the League Cup. He has never been the same since.
