Amorim took charge of his pre-season training last week as United's coach after some time off following the conclusion of the 2024/2025 campaign.

It was a disastrous season for the Red Devils, who finished in 15th place and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

Amorim was brought in midseason after Erik ten Hag was fired, but the Portuguese manager failed to help the situation.

Now with a full pre-season and freedom to decide what players he wants, the former Sporting Lisbon manager has banned five players from first-team training.

Which players has Amorim banned?

The players excluded include returning loanees like Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa), Jadon Sancho (Chelsea), Tyrell Malacia (PSV Eindhoven) and Antony (Real Betis).

Also included in the group is Alejandro Garnacho, whose fate was sealed after the Europa League final.

The Sun reports that the players are allowed to use the club's facilities at Carrington, but can only access them after 5 pm when Amorim and his selected group are done.

What next for the banned players?

This is perhaps the biggest indication yet that Amorim doesn't plan to reintegrate the players into his squad.

Amorim fell out with Rashford shortly after his arrival, accusing the England international of not giving his all during training sessions.

Rashford has since been stripped of his number 10 jersey, which was handed to new signing, Matheus Cunha.

He has been linked with moves to Barcelona after Aston Villa refused to make his loan deal permanent.

The 27-year-old has been training alone as he looks to remain in top shape ahead of a potential move.

"Putting in the work with family and friends before the serious stuff starts back up," he posted in one of his Instagram updates.

Sancho is in the same boat after Chelsea returned him to his parent club. Juventus are looking to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Real Betis are exploring a deal to bring Antony to the club, while Garnacho recently turned down a move to join his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, at Al-Nassr.

Why Manchester United are struggling to sell players

In a related report, TUKO.co.ke explained why Manchester United are struggling to offload the named players.

The players have been known to be on the market since the season ended, but weeks into the transfer window, there has been little to no movement.

The lack of departures has hampered United's ability to recruit more players, with only Cunha the new arrival at the moment.
