The Blues were considered underdogs before the final, primarily due to their challenging path. PSG had defeated Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the quarter-finals and semi-finals to reach the final.

The French side also destroyed Inter Milan 5-0 to win the Champions League and were expected to be victorious again in the FIFA Club World Cup final.

PSG were expected to make quick work of Chelsea in front of a packed MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 13. However, they were caught off guard.

Luis Enrique's team dominated Real Madrid in the first half of the semi-final, but faced a similar fate against Chelsea. They conceded all three goals in the first half.

Cole Palmer found the net in the 22nd minute to give the Blues the lead after good work from new signing Joao Pedro.

Palmer added a second for Chelsea with a brilliant finish to the bottom corner eight minutes later, before Pedro added another one late in the first half.

PSG attempted a comeback in the second half, but they fell short. Chelsea lifted the trophy with Donald Trump to add to the UEFA Conference League they won in May.

"It’s a great feeling. The gaffer put a great game plan out. He knew where there would space and tried to free me up as much as possible. I just had to repay him and score some goals. He [Enzo Maresca] is building something special. I feel we’re going in the right direction," Palmer said via FIFA.
