Diogo Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso, has spoken for the first time on social media since the tragic passing of her husband earlier this month.

The grieving widow has been absent from her social media handles as she tries to come to terms with the unfortunate incident that befell her.

What killed Diogo Jota?

Cardoso lost her husband in a fatal road accident. Jota died alongside his brother Andre Silva after the car they were travelling in crashed in northwest Spain.

Spanish authorities have since confirmed that it was Jota who was likely driving at the time of the accident.

The report indicated that the Lamborghini was probably speeding as it overtook another car. One of its tires burst, forcing it to veer off the road before crashing and getting engulfed in flames.

Jota's wife was devastated with videos and photos showing her in tears during the funeral service.

Cardoso painfully rested her head on the coffin as she helped carry the remains of her husband across the courtyard.

The widow has now spoken for the first time on what would have been their first wedding anniversary.

The couple said I do on June 22 at the Gondomar Catholic church, and 11 days later, Jota perished in the accident.

"1 month of our 'until death do us part.' Forever. Your white girl."

She accompanied the post with three tearjerking photos from their beautiful wedding.

Cardoso is the mother of Jota's three children: two sons, Dinis and Duarte, and a daughter, Mafalda, who is just eight months old.

Fans online continued to send their messages of support to Cardoso and the entire family.

Catarina said,

"Everything will be alright, time heals everything, and believe me, these aren't just empty words. We're all with you."

Pratik Mehta said,

"You, your kids and Diogo are always in our prayers and thoughts. Never think you are alone. I hope you and your family always find love and peace."

While Danny L4 said,

Did Jota's car have problems?

There are no indications that Jota's sports car had mechanical issues. However, the same model has had a few safety-related recalls in the last few years.

There have been reports about thousands of recalls of Huracans in the USA due to headlight issues. However, Jota's car is not believed to have had any faults.

Liverpool retires Jota's number 20 shirt

Liverpool paid the highest honour to Jota by retiring his number 20 shirt. He joined them in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and helped them win their 20th Premier League title last season.

"After consultation with his wife, Rute, and family, the club can announce that the squad number will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels, including LFC Women and Academy.
"The move is recognition of not only the immeasurable contribution our lad from Portugal made to the Reds’ on-pitch successes over the last five years, but also the profound personal impact he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the everlasting connections he built with them."
