The report adds that he is set to undergo his medical on Saturday

The 27-year-old will also wear the famous No. 14 shirt previously worn by club icon Thierry Henry. Theo Walcott and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also wore the number.

Gyökeres was keen on joining Arsenal, and Gunners fans are hopeful he can elevate the team to the next level, having scored 54 goals in 52 matches last season.

The Gunners' Premier League title challenge faltered partly due to the absence of a recognised striker for much of the 2024/25 season, following injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Will Viktor Gyokeres make an impact at Arsenal?

The 27-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past few seasons, especially after joining Sporting in 2023.

He scored 66 league goals in Portugal for the last two seasons.

Arsenal have had one of the best attacking teams in the Premier League for the last two seasons, but have struggled to close the gap at the top. They lost the title to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Last season, Arsenal drew 14 games, with only Everton recording more draws (15), making Gyökeres a potential key figure for the team next season.

"It is no lie, we have been struggling in our strike force for some time now. The improvisation so far has not helped either. The introduction of Gyokeres, therefore, comes as good news. Stats from the previous seasons indicate he is a good striker, so yeah, he could be the piece we have been missing from our jigsaw for quite some time," Arsenal fan Clinton Masi told TUKO.co.ke.

@afcDW

"I don’t know if this is controversial, but yes, Gyokeres should wear 14. Too much fear in this fanbase, our big-money striker should welcome the history of the number, not be scared of the pressure it brings."

@Faaabianskiii:

"30+ goals next season. Goals in extra time to secure crucial three points for the title. Decisive goals in cup matches. Battering ram in derbies. Iconic celebrations. Pray my fantasies come true."

@FootballEra_:

"I know Viktor Gyokeres intentionally demanded the #14 knowing the weight of that jersey at Arsenal. This is a man that thrives in taking up new challenges and proving his doubters wrong. A mentality monster. VG14."
