The tournament, which was originally meant to be played last year, has retained its 2024 stage despite being played deep into 2025.
Kenya will co-host the month-long competition alongside its East African neighbours, Uganda and Tanzania. It will be the first time three countries have hosted the tournament as they seek to use it as a test run for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Kenya's opponents at CHAN 2024
Kenya's men's national football team, Harambee Stars, face a stern test on home soil as they face two teams that have won this tournament twice in the past, DR Congo and Morocco.
They'll open their campaign against DR Congo on Sunday, August 3, before playing Angola a few days later.
Harambee Stars' third game will be against Morocco before they wrap up their group stage campaign against Zambia. All of Kenya's games will be at Kasarani Stadium.
CHAN 2024 prize money
In January, CAF announced an increased prize structure for the tournament. The governing body confirmed that the total prize money on offer would be $ 10.4 million (KSh 1.4 billion), which is a 32% increase from the previous tournament.
Of the $ 10.4 million, the winner of the tournament will receive $3.5 million (KSh 452 million), which is a 75% increase from what Senegal received after winning the last tournament.
The beaten finalists will get $1.2 million (KSh 155 million). The third-place finisher will get $700,000 (KSh 90.4 million) while the fourth-place finisher will receive $600,000 (KSh 77.6 million).
For reaching the quarter-finals, a team will get $450,000 (KSh 58.2 million).

How much will Harambee Stars get from CHAN 2024?
Three of the four groups have five teams each. Therefore, teams that finish third in these groups (A, B and C) plus the third-place finisher in group D will get $300,000 (KSh 38.8 million).
The number fours of Group A, B, C and D, plus the fifth-place of the first three groups, will each get $200,000 (KSh 25.8 million).
Therefore, the least amount of money Harambee Stars can get from the competition is KSh 25.8 million.
"We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the Prize Money. This Competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide," said CAF President Patrice Motsepe in January.
