The Spanish giants are facing the daunting prospect of failing to use their new acquisition as they continue to deal with a deep financial crisis.
Why Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona
Rashford sealed a season-long loan move to Barcelona after a difficult last few months in Manchester. He fell out with the new head coach, Ruben Amorim, who dropped him from the squad.
He was sent out on loan to Aston Villa, but despite impressing under Unai Emery, the club didn't make the move permanent.
Barcelona, which was his dream move all along, eventually bid for him after they failed to land Nico Williams. Liverpool also played hardball with Luis Diaz, leaving the path clear for Rashford's arrival.
The 27-year-old agreed to a significant pay cut to move to Catalonia and link up with Hansi Flick's side.
However, Barcelona must free up space in their squad to register Rashford. The club has been in this situation before.
They only got the licences for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor late last season, and the duo were once again temporarily deregistered in January.
What will Rashford do to register Rashford?
To avoid this, club president Joan Laporta is hopeful that an incoming deal will raise around £87m (KSh 16.1 billion). SPORT reports that they also intend to lease up to 475 VIP seats at Camp Nou to raise more revenue.
"It's progressing well. We're doing our job and we're confident that we'll be able to register everyone." Laporta told ESPN.

On his part, Rashford expressed full confidence in the club, stating that he had to worry about training only.
"It's something for the club to sort out. I believe they are going to get it sorted. I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season.
"We're ready for the season to start. It's been a good preseason. It's been good to integrate into the team. I've enjoyed getting used to the team, used to the coach."
Who else do Barcelona need to register?
Rashford isn't the only player the La Liga champions have to worry about. New goalkeeper Joan Garcia will also need to be registered.
The former Espanyol man is widely expected to be the new number one amid Marc Andre Ter Stegen's injury and legal issues.
Wojciech Szczęsny will also need to be re-registered afresh after he extended his contract and signed new terms.
Others include Gerard Martín and Marc Bernal, who are academy graduates being integrated into the main team.
Roony Bardghji is the other new arrival from Copenhagen. The Swedish winger is expected to operate as Lamine Yamal's backup on the right wing.
Where will Rashford fit at Barcelona?
Hansi Flick has predominantly used him in his best position on the left wing, giving him the second half of the season games after Raphinha has played the first half.
He also had a brief cameo at centre forward in their game against Daegu, where he bagged his first goal in Blaugrana colours.
There is also a possibility of playing both Raphinha and Rashford in the same XI, where the former will play as the number 10 behind Robert Lewandowski.
How Rashford will be denied dream Barcelona start
Rashford's problems are far from over.
In a related report, the England international will also be forced to wait before he plays at the Camp Nou.
The United academy graduate has previously admitted that after Old Trafford, Barcelona's home stadium was his next best ground atmosphere-wise.
However, Barcelona haven't used Camp Nou for the last two seasons as renovations on Europe's biggest stadium continue.
