Kenya are jointly co-hosting the delayed 2024 tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania, which will enter day six on Thursday.
Harambee Stars are set to play Angola at the Kasarani Stadium, while DR Congo will face Zambia at the Nyayo Stadium.
Why has Kenya been fined by CAF?
However, it has since emerged that CAF has imposed a huge fine on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following multiple security breaches during the opening match between Kenya and DR Congo at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.
"The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) with breaching Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code as well as Articles 15, 31, and 32 of the CAF Safety and Security Regulations during the match between Kenya and DR Congo," read the statement from CAF.
According to a comprehensive CAF Security Officer's official report, there were several breaches starting at gate 11, where a stampede was reported.
What has Kenya been accused of at CHAN 2024?
Fans overwhelmed security officials and forced their way into the stadium, with many left nursing injuries.
CAF's report has also highlighted a motorbike that was spotted dangerously spinning through the crowd.
Inside the stadium, fans were spotted starting a fire behind the stands at block 18, contrary to CAF's rules.
There was also commotion at the VVIP area after CAF protocol officers were denied entry, including the Close Protection Unit of CAF President Patrice Motsepe. Motsepe attended the game alongside President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
It was the same area where government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura and nominated senator Karen Nyamu were dramatically denied entry.
The report states that a member of the Falcon Private Security assaulted a commercial staff member from CAF.
Similar incidents were reported at Nyayo Stadium, where Morocco beat Angola by two goals to nil. CAF has accused and punished FKF for flouting Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, and Articles 31, 32, and 43 of the CAF Safety & Security Regulations.

How much will FKF pay?
CAF has hit the Hussein Mohamed-led body with a 15000 USD fine (approximately KSh 1.9 million) for the stampede, unauthorised access and assault on CAF guests and personnel.
A further 5000 USD (KSh 647,500) ban has been imposed for the incidents at Nyayo Stadium, and a suspended 2500 USD (KSh 323,750) fine tied to FKF not committing another mistake during CHAN 2024.
In total, the federation has 60 days to pay KSh 2.5 million.
CAF fines Tanzania
Kenya's neighbours haven't been spared either after similar incidents were reported on matchday 1 between Tanzania and Burkina Faso.
CAF says that some fans misbehaved contrary to CAF’s Safety and Security obligations as stipulated in Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code and Articles 24 and 28 of the CAF Safety & Security Regulations.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has been fined 10,000 USD (KSh 1.2 million).
These developments paint a dark picture for Kenya and Tanzania, as the region aimed to host an incident-free CAF competition for the first time.
CHAN is being used as a precursor for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027, which the three countries will also host.
Why government has banned vuvuzelas at CHAN 2024
Staying with rules, Interior PS Raymond Omollo explained why vuvuzelas, whistles had been banned from CHAN 2024.
The noise-making instruments, including drums, were banned from the stadiums during the tournament, eliciting sharp reactions from fans.
The items are always a common feature during local games, especially the Mashemeji Derby.
