McCarthy registered his first competitive win as Harambee Stars coach on Sunday against DR Congo at Kasarani, a game they narrowly won 1-0.

Amid preparations for the Angola clash, the South African was struck by the heartbreaking news of his former teammate, Jorge Costa, passing away after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Can Benni McCarthy lead Kenya to CHAN glory?

Kenya is competing in CHAN for the first time in history, having failed to qualify since its inception in 2009. With a history of struggles to qualify for AFCON, Harambee Stars fans are hoping for a strong performance at CHAN 2024.

They battled hard against DR Congo and came out with a hard-fought win, but they need to register a few more wins to book a quarter-final spot.

McCarthy's team faces Angola, two-time winners Morocco, and Zambia in their remaining Group A matches.

"We have analysed Angola. What they do as a team in possession and out of possession. They like to press high, so we will set up in a way that counters this to our advantage. They play with three attackers, which allows their wingbacks to advance very high on the pitch, so we have to find solutions to this, the way Morocco did," McCarthy said in his preview.

Kenya's credentials will be tested against Morocco on Sunday, with the Atlas Lions emerging as the favourites to lift the trophy.
