  • Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee will be waiting to learn their fate before the transfer window shuts

Manchester United won the race for Benjamin Šeško's signature, but his new manager, Ruben Amorim, may have effectively ended one of his players' careers at Old Trafford while welcoming the Slovenian.

Šeško is expected to be Manchester United's first-choice striker, a development that could leave Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund's futures in doubt.

The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off next weekend, and the transfer window shuts on September 1, meaning there could be plenty of movement at Old Trafford.

Which players could leave Man United?

The so-called 'bomb squad' of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, and Antony were told to find new clubs.

Only Rashford, who recently joined Barcelona, has. The rest are still looking for new homes.

With the arrival of Sesko, Hojlund has been linked with a move to AC Milan. Andre Onana has also been linked with a move away after another poor season.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with the Red Devils, but a deal is yet to materialise.

Who did Amorim 'tell to leave' Man United?

Šeško's signing has placed Rasmus Højlund's future in doubt. The Dane, the club's sixth most expensive signing, has struggled to make an impact in his two seasons.

Speaking about Šeško after Man United's 1-1 draw with Fiorentina, Ruben Amorim seemed to indirectly call out Højlund, potentially signalling the end of his career at the club.

He did not play against the Italian side, raising even more questions.

"He has the characteristics that we needed," he said of Sesko. "He's really young, he's good in the air, he's good at running the channels. He's good on the whole."

What went wrong for Rasmus Hojlund?

The 22-year-old has scored just 14 Premier League goals in two seasons and was heavily criticised last season. A lack of service and confidence have been cited as the cause of his struggles.

Pundits concluded that the youngster should've never been the starting striker. Hojlund admitted he could've used some help.

"You're not going to tell me I shouldn't be playing because I want to play every game. But obviously I could have done with some help in terms of sharing the games a bit, especially in the beginning."
"My plan is very clear," said Hojlund. "That is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens."
