CHAN 2024: Tanzania Eliminated After Heartbreaking Defeat to Morocco
Tanzania's journey at CHAN 2024 is over following their painful loss to Morocco in the quarter-finals at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The Atlas Lions, who entered the tournament as favourites, will now face either Uganda or Senegal in the semi-final.
Tanzania went toe-to-toe with the favourites, Morocco, in the first half, with Clement Mzize attempting an acrobatic shot at the half-hour mark.
At the stroke of halftime, Mzize was one-on-one with Morocco's goalkeeper, Elmehdi Al Harrar, but couldn't slot it past him. The Raja Athletic Club goalie made an easy save to keep the score goalless.
The first half was a cagey affair with Mzize's chance the best chance of the game.
In the 50th minute, Oussama Lamlioui was through on goal, but Tanzania goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman made a brilliant save just outside the box. Lamlioui got a second chance after the save, but the goalie denied him again.
Suleiman then made another stop in the 52nd minute, saving a header after a free-kick. Morocco continued to threaten in the second half, but Suleiman was up to the task every time.

Nevertheless, Lamlioui was not to be denied in the 65th minute. The striker tapped in Youssef Belammari's cross to open the scoring. It is his fourth goal of the tournament, making him the frontrunner for the Golden Boot.
The Atlas Lions managed the game well after going up and limited the hosts to a handful of half-chances. They secured the win to advance to the semi-final.
