CHAN 2024: Uganda Knocked Out by Defending Champions Senegal
Senegal defeated Uganda 1-0 to knock them out of CHAN 2024, leaving no co-hosts remaining in the tournament.

The Lions of Teranga, defending champions, scored just past the hour mark and defended their lead valiantly to secure the win.
Fellow co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania were eliminated on Friday after losing to Madagascar and Morocco, respectively.
Uganda vs Senegal first half
Uganda Cranes started strongly at the Nelson Mandela Stadium but couldn’t break down Senegal’s defence. The defending champions, Senegal, forced several crucial saves early in the game.
The Cranes created better chances as the half progressed, but Senegal stood firm with last-ditch defending.
In the 34th minute, Abdu Karim Watambala forced Senegal's Marc Phillips Diouf into a great save with a long-range strike.
Later in the first half, Senegal appealed for a penalty after Christian Gomis was fouled in the box by Arnold Odong, but the referee waved it off.
How Uganda vs Senegal first half unfolded
The hosts started the second half strong and nearly took the lead when Senegal's Sayne Mbaye Ndiaye almost turned Reagan Mpande’s cross into his own net.
In the 62nd minute, against the run of play, Oumar Ba slotted past Joel Mutakubwa after a beautiful cross to open the scoring.
The Lions of Teranga were on the back foot for most of the second half before scoring just after the hour mark.
In the 83rd minute, the Cranes came close to finding an equaliser, but Odong fired over the bar after a loose ball from a corner.
Uganda created good chances in added time, but it wasn’t meant to be. They exited the tournament, joining co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania, who were eliminated on Friday.
