In the 34th minute, Abdu Karim Watambala forced Senegal's Marc Phillips Diouf into a great save with a long-range strike.

Later in the first half, Senegal appealed for a penalty after Christian Gomis was fouled in the box by Arnold Odong, but the referee waved it off.

The hosts started the second half strong and nearly took the lead when Senegal's Sayne Mbaye Ndiaye almost turned Reagan Mpande’s cross into his own net.

In the 62nd minute, against the run of play, Oumar Ba slotted past Joel Mutakubwa after a beautiful cross to open the scoring.

The Lions of Teranga were on the back foot for most of the second half before scoring just after the hour mark.

In the 83rd minute, the Cranes came close to finding an equaliser, but Odong fired over the bar after a loose ball from a corner.
