Muchiri and Harambee Stars will now begin their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set for September.

Kenya lost their final World Cup qualifier in March, leaving their hopes of reaching their first-ever World Cup slim.

Muchiri played every game and provided assists for Kenya's goals against Zambia and Madagascar.

He started three of the four matches Harambee Stars played, after coming on as a substitute in Kenya's opening game against DR Congo at CHAN. As the tournament progressed, he became a trusted member of McCarthy's squad.

Against Madagascar, it was his free-kick that was headed in by Alphonce Omija to give Kenya the lead. He was also instrumental in Ryan Omag's disallowed goal.

What did Boniface Muchiri say about Benni McCarthy?

After Kenya was knocked out on Friday, Muchiri expressed his admiration for McCarthy, emphasising his role in transforming Kenyan football.

"I'm happy to be part of the current squad that can make fans believe. I also want to say that our coach has made people believe in the team because he has instilled confidence in us, we play with a lot of confidence," he said after the game via Dollar SM.
"He tells us go our there and enjoy football. We have the right coach around and let him do his job and build a team to take us to AFCON," he added.
