The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) announced a number of counties in the country that are set to experience power interruption on Wednesday, January 8.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said there are currently only isolated cases of electricity blackouts in the country. He said the ministry is addressing them.

Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi said his administration has procured close to 12,000 solar lights that are being installed across all sixty wards.

KPLC has announced a planned maintenance in various regions across the country on Thursday, December 19. The areas include parts of Migori, Kisii, and Kiambu.

Several parts of Kenya including Nairobi, Nyanza, Western and Mt. Kenya were hit by a widespread blackout resulting from disruption of KPLC power supply.

Kenyans took to social media to express their frustrations after a widespread KPLC blackout, with some speculating that the outage was an act of "sabotage.

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has restored electricity to parts of North Rift, Nairobi, and other regions following a widespread blackout.

Kenya Power and Lighting Company has listed three counties where there will be an over eight-hour blackout on Monday, December 16. They include Kisumu and Bomet.

Kenya is set to begin exporting electricity to Tanzania following the completion of a high-voltage transmission line connecting the two countries.
