A Nairobi hawker has given a firsthand account of the moment his friend Boniface Mwangi Kariuki was shot by police during protests near Imenti House.

Busia senator Okiya Omtatah said he was barred from accessing a hawker who was critically injured during anti-police brutality demonstrations in Nairobi.

Police Constable James Mukhwana told IPOA he was pressured by OCS Samson Talam to arrange for blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang to be assaulted in custody.

Protests broke out in Mawego village, Homa Bay, as residents demanded justice for blogger Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody after reportedly being tortured.

IG Douglas Kanja said Albert Ojwang's arrest stemmed from a post accusing DIG Eliud Lagat of planting loyal officers to control police revenue and intelligence.

Albert Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo, travelled to Nairobi carrying a title deed, hoping to use it as surety to bail out his son, only to be told he had died.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja told the Senate that Albert Ojwang arrived safely in Nairobi from Homa Bay before being booked at Nairobi Central Police Station.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek alleged that blogger Albert Ojwang’s murder may have been part of a wider plot to destabilise President William Ruto’s government.

Former police spokesperson Charles Owino questioned the police's claim that Albert Ojwang had fatally hit his head on a wall. He demanded witnesses.
