How did police identify suspect?

Police launched investigations and retrieved CCTV footage that became instrumental in solving the case.

Initially, officers extracted still images and released them to the public, appealing for help in identifying the suspect.

The footage showed a man wearing a black balaclava, red trousers with white stripes, a black long-sleeved shirt, sandals, and gloves.

He was armed with a gun and captured standing at the entrance of the Mutaagas’ home.

In a major breakthrough, the Uganda Police Force also retrieved audio recordings from the home’s CCTV system.

The suspect’s chilling words to the couple before their deaths were captured.

“We suffered. Your children have studied, but I haven’t. I’m here suffering. Now go to hospital. Deborah! Come and help your husband. He is here dying,” the suspect’s voice is heard saying.

He voiced deep resentment over their children’s success compared to his own difficult life and seemingly blamed them for his misfortunes.

“Deborah, do you think you’re the only one with children? We also want a better life. Call whoever you want. I’ve come to kill you, and nothing will stop me from completing my mission,” he declared coldly.

He reportedly uttered those words just moments after stabbing David in the neck and leaving him for dead.

Deborah had rushed upstairs to call for help, but was followed by the suspect, who stabbed her twice, killing her as well.

Why Ugandan couple’s memorial was held without their coffins

In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that family and friends of the Mutaaga's organised a memorial service to honour their memory.

However, instead of their bodies in coffins, two portraits of the slain couple were placed near the altar, surrounded by flowers.

Church officials explained that the bodies had not been released for burial due to the ongoing police investigation.
