Steve Waiswa was laid to rest at his ancestral home after he was reportedly killed via mob justice, following accusations of involvement in another person’s death.

Waiswa’s family explained that after burying him, they returned to the gravesite at around 2am to perform a traditional ghost-chasing ceremony, only to find the grave disturbed.

What happened to Steve Waiswa's body?

Mercy Nampina, a close relative, said the individuals who dug up the grave must have heard them approaching and fled.

She noted that they could not immediately confirm whether any body parts were missing.

Villagers expressed fear that the incident could be linked to ritual practices, given the circumstances surrounding Waiswa’s death.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident and said a team of officers had been dispatched to investigate.

“It is illegal to tamper with graves or interfere with the peace of the dead. Those responsible will face serious legal consequences,” said Kasadha.

“We don’t know what they take the bodies for, but the community must stop engaging in these criminal and shameful practices,” Bamuwa said.
