A letter purportedly from the African Union Commission (AUC) made rounds on social media, indicating that Kalonzo had been tapped for a diplomatic role in West Africa.

Has Kalonzo been contracted for peace mission in West Africa?

The letter, which bore the AUC header and credentials of Chairman Mahmoud Youssouf, claimed Kalonzo has been appointed to broker a truce in the Côte d'Ivoire.

President William Ruto was referenced as one who had recommended Kalonzo.

The Wiper leader quickly dispelled the contents of the document.

Whereas he was in the West African country, Kalonzo clarified he was not there on any peace mission.

He restated his resolve never to work with Ruto in any capacity or style, inside or outside Kenya.

"Absolutely fake. I will always stand with the people of Kenya. I will not dialogue with those who murder and abduct young Kenyans," he said.

In recent days, Kalonzo has been tasked with restating his commitment to the opposition as rumours are peddled that he was being courted into the government.

Meanwhile, Kindiki leveraged the Ukambani edition of the empowerment series last month to woo Kalonzo to consider crossing to Ruto's side.

Why Kindiki wants Kalonzo in Ruto's camp

In his assessment of the Wiper leader, the deputy president observed that the former does not fit into the confrontational style of politics he is currently accustomed to by the likes of Rigathi Gachagua and others in the opposition.

Kindiki purposed to meet Kalonzo and talk to him about the idea.

That would, however, not be long before the Wiper leader turned down the invitation.

Kalonzo said there were a host of reasons why he can't be in the same camp as the president.

Purporting to be on the side of the citizenry against the current regime in power, the onetime vice president cited Ruto's supposed failures and the crackdown on young revolting Kenyans as among the reasons he could not work with the president.

Will Kalonzo Musyoka vie for presidency?

He vowed to stay within the opposition, where he is hopeful he will be entrusted with the faction's presidential ticket to face off with Ruto in the 2027 presidential vote.

With his seemingly tough stance, eyes will be on him to see how long he holds onto it.

He is on record as having, in 2021, ruled out working with ODM leader Raila Odinga after their failed joint presidential bids in 2017 and 2013.

At that time, Kalonzo had accused Raila of leveraging his support in the two electoral cycles without reciprocating it.

He ultimately joined Raila's camp in 2022, and unlike in the previous elections where he ran as the ODM leader's deputy, he was promised a post akin to the prime minister had the Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party formed the government.
