According to opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, Marinos Alexandros was abducted on March 30, 2022, in Mbuya and reportedly subjected to torture and sexual assault while in detention.
"It is very unfortunate that we have lost her this morning at 1.30am," Bobi confirmed in a Facebook post.

Why was Marinos Alexandros tortured?
Her alleged crime was playing music by the opposition leader on loudspeakers.
After speaking publicly about her ordeal, Alexandros said she began receiving death threats and her home was later raided.
She fled to Kenya for safety, where she lived in Nairobi and later at a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) camp. Activists claim she continued to face threats even while in exile.
"Even in Kenya, regime thugs attempted to abduct her, forcing her to leave Nairobi and go to the UNHCR camp where she could have some security," Bobi stated.
As a result of the alleged torture, Alexandros reportedly contracted several health complications, including HIV/AIDS. She returned to Uganda earlier in 2025 to be closer to her family while seeking treatment.
Bobi described her as a courageous fighter whose death highlighted the ongoing human rights abuses in Uganda.
"Marinos joins hundreds of other victims of the Museveni regime of blood and terror. Fight on, comrade! The struggle for freedom and democracy in Uganda is poorer without you, but the evil regime will never have the last laugh," he said.
