His family announced his passing on Thursday, August 21, revealing that he died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce my father has passed away. Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions,” his family said in a statement on Instagram.

Who was the nicest judge in the world?

His son, David Caprio, revealed that he had lived with cancer for about two years.

“He will be remembered not only as a respected judge but as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he uplifted," he added.

Caprio, often dubbed the 'nicest judge in the world,' was beloved for his warmth, humour, and humanity.

His compassionate rulings in Providence, Rhode Island, where he presided over thousands of cases, went viral online, with clips of his show amassing billions of views across social media platforms.

Beyond television, Caprio was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce Caprio, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Finnish MP dies in parliament

In other news, Finland was plunged into mourning following the sudden death of 30-year-old Social Democratic Party MP Eemeli Peltonen.

He was discovered inside the country’s main parliament building in Helsinki on Tuesday morning, August 19.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo suspended all political activities for the day, as lawmakers observed a minute of silence in Peltonen’s memory.
