How did the Finnish MP die?
Local media reported that Peltonen is believed to have taken his own life. Emergency services were called to the Eduskuntatalo, the parliament complex, shortly after 11:00 local time, and his death was confirmed three hours later in a parliamentary statement.

In a statement, the Finnish parliament confirmed expressed condolences to his family and loved ones.
“The person who passed away in the parliament building on the morning is Eemeli Peltonen, a member of parliament in his first term," the statement read, as quoted by News 18.
Peltonen’s sudden passing stunned colleagues across the political spectrum.
Did Finland suspend activities?
Tytti Tuppurainen, chair of the Social Democratic parliamentary group, said: “He was a much-loved member of our community and we will miss him deeply. A young life has ended far too early.”
Although parliament is currently on summer recess, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo suspended all political work for the rest of the day.
A minute’s silence was observed in Peltonen’s memory, with Orpo describing him as a colleague who had been well liked by many, according to Finland’s public broadcaster YLE.
Parliamentary speaker Jussi Halla-aho echoed these sentiments, writing on X that Peltonen had been respected across party lines.
Peltonen’s death has raised questions about mental health support for young leaders in Finland, with many calling for reflection on the pressures faced by those in public life.
