Billy Chemirmir: Police Say Kenyan Man Accused of Killing 22 Women Was Murdered By Cellmate

Texas - Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesperson Amanda Hernandez disclosed that Billy Chemirmir was killed by his cellmate on Tuesday, September 19.

According to US Today, his cellmate also served a life sentence for murder. Both the cellmate and Chemirmir's cause of death were kept a secret.
Chemirmir was found guilty of killing Lu Thi Harris, 80, and Mary Brooks, 87, in 2018.

Over a two-year period, authorities believed he preyed on elderly women and stole their jewellery.
In two Texas counties, he had been charged with 22 capital murder offences.
Families recount moments they lost loved ones
When Mary Annis Bartel, 91, survived an assault in March 2018 and told detectives about a man who broke into her apartment at an independent living facility for seniors, tried to suffocate her, and stole her jewellery, he was finally apprehended.
Bartel passed away in 2020, but she told investigators that when she opened her door and saw him, she knew she was in "grave danger."
After being found guilty of causing her mother's death, Ann Brooks, Brooks' daughter, said that her family was "thrilled that this defendant can never hurt any other family again."
"Our beloved mother, Mary Sue, her life is over, and her jewellery is gone, but her love and her memories will live in us forever," Ann Brooks said.

Stark reality of losing a mother
After his conviction, another woman gave an impact statement during which she displayed two photos of her mother—one of her alive and the other of her dead.
“My mother died in fear. This man did not have a peaceful passing. There’s some relief in feeling that he didn’t get off easily,” said Shannon Dion, whose 92-year-old mother, Doris Gleason, was among those Chemirmir was charged with killing.
According to prison records, he was finishing his sentence at the Coffield Unit, about 100 miles outside Dallas.
Who is Billy Chemirmir
Billy Kipkorir Chemirmir from Eldama Ravine in Baringo County was, on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, accused of three new capital murder charges, bringing to 17 the total charges against him.
Dallas Morning News indicated the healthcare worker was also linked to seven other deaths, bringing the total to 24 homicides in North Texas.
Chemirmir, as per the publication, smothered elderly women and stole their jewellery, cash, and other items in Dallas and Collin counties in Texas and later sold them in Dallas-area pawn shops.
He allegedly poses as a maintenance worker to gain access to the homes. The Dallas Morning News further reported that a Dallas County grand jury handed down the new charges against him in relation to the deaths of Joyce Abramowitz, Doris Wasserman and Margaret White.
