According to NBC News, the Cessna 550 crashed around 3:45 am, leaving multiple homes and cars in the neighbourhood destroyed.
What caused San Diego plane crash?
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Eliott Simpson said the plane hit a power line before crashing into a house.
Simpson said the light aircraft left Teterboro Airport in New Jersey at 11:15 pm Wednesday, May 21, stopped to refuel in Wichita, Kansas, and then proceeded to its final destination.
He added that the cause of the plane striking the power line is still unclear. Investigators discovered debris at the powerline location, while the wings and main wreckage were found at the crash site.
Authorities are looking for the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder to aid in determining the cause of the crash.
According to a BBC report, the crash injured at least eight people and destroyed several homes. Authorities described the scene as a street littered with vehicles and plane parts.
There’s plane debris everywhere,” San Diego Assistant Fire Chief Dan Eddy said, referring to the large field of wreckage.
