Joyce Gituro Apologises after Defending Pastor Dismissed for Serious Allegations of Misconduct

Veteran radio presenter Joyce Gituro has been forced to issue an apology after her remarks upset many Kenyans.

It all began when the Nairobi Baptist Church announced the dismissal of a senior pastor, Munengi Mulandi, with the statement:
"Following serious allegations of misconduct."
The church said that, after reviewing the pastor’s actions, they deemed them incompatible with the teachings of Christ and the responsibilities of an ordained preacher.

"The Elders' Council decided to revoke his ordination."
The church added that an independent investigation would be initiated to understand the full extent of the matter.

The church stated that while the decision was sad, it was committed to handling the matter firmly.
"Our foremost concern is the safety, dignity, and well-being of the individual directly impacted. We stand with them in the pursuit of healing and justice," the letter read.
Gituro opposed the move, saying:
"So, why put it on social media? You're damaging a brother more," she wrote.

What did Joyce Gituro say in apology?
On Tuesday, August 5, Gituro issued a public apology, saying she had not been fully aware of the gravity of the allegations against the preacher.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming.”
Gituro explained that after learning the truth, she deleted the post.

“Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I stand against any form of abuse and also with the victims. I regret my swift reaction to that story,” she wrote.
Many Kenyans accepted Gituro’s apology, reacting to her post with comments such as:

In other news, Gituro’s son, Jakes Nyanjom, officially moved out of her Kilimani home, marking a new chapter in his life.
The media personality shared a video showing movers helping Jakes pack up household items, including a couch and a television, from her bedroom.
Jakes joked about relocating to a less affluent area, saying he wanted to be closer to ordinary people.
Despite her emotions, Joyce offered her blessings and promised to visit him. She also reflected on adjusting to the quietness of an empty house without her son around.
