What happened to Swaleh Oswado?

Embu West sub-county police commander Vincent Kitili said Oswado, a remand inmate, was fatally shot after escaping from a prison van.

The incident happened on Tuesday, August 5, as officers were escorting inmates from court back to Embu Prison.

How was Swaleh Oswado shot?

Two inmates reportedly sprayed pepper on the police before fleeing.

Kitili said Oswado ran into a construction site and picked up a machete, threatening an officer who had pursued him.

Despite warnings, he advanced, prompting the officer to shoot in self-defence. The second inmate escaped and is still at large as a manhunt continues.

Social media influencer and lawyer Wahome Thuku noted that many Kenyans were celebrating the death, with some sharing their scary experiences with Oswado.

“Waa, looks like the policeman who took out this guy did God's work. The online celebration. May he go well.
Congratulations, Mr Officer. As I told you, never fear celebrating the death of a man who hurt you. Next should be to attend his burial and throw in 10 spades of soil to confirm he is gone,” he wrote.
