"In this time of national grief, I urge all Kenyans to remain calm and allow due process to take its course. The leadership of Parliament is actively engaged and will continue to monitor the progress of investigations while remaining in close contact with the bereaved family," Wetang'ula added.

How was Ong'ondo Were killed

The fatal shooting took place around 7:30 pm on Wednesday, April 30, when Were was ambushed near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

According to eyewitnesses and police reports, two assailants on a motorcycle trailed Were’s white Toyota Crown.

The gunman dismounted the motorcycle, approached the vehicle, and fired several shots at the passenger side, fatally injuring the MP.

They then fled the scene, leaving behind a shaken driver and another male passenger who were unharmed.

Witnesses described the act as brazen, especially considering the area’s security and the fact that traffic police officers were present at the roundabout during the attack.
