Video: Eyewitnesses Recounts Exact Moment AMREF Plane Crashed in Mwihoko

An eyewitness has recounted how events unfolded when the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) chopper crashed in Mwihoko on Thursday, August 7.

The fatal accident led to the death of six people, including two doctors, two nurses, and two others who were inside a building that the plane crashed into.

According to AMREF, the chopper was coming from the Wilson Airport and was headed to Somalia before crashing.

Speaking to the press, an eyewitness recounted seeing the plane having trouble with its descent. Moments later, he observed that the plane began emitting smoke while still in the air.

The man stated that what followed was a loud bang from the impact of the plane crash, causing them to panic.

"Unajua ikitoka juu inapelekwa na upepo?It hit this place. Smoke was in this place too," the man said.
"We had the impact of the plane crash from our houses," another resident said.

Another eyewitness said that the plane burst into flames while still in the sky. He stated that it afterwards fell from the sky and hit a residential building.

"Hio ndege ililipukia kwa hewa. Once it exploded, it crashed into this plot," he recounted.

They stated that they also observed what appeared to be human remains from the gruesome scene.

"We saw remains of people. We ran towards the scene. There was smoke everywhere. we also saw the human remains."

Following the incident, AMREF stated that they are investigating to establish the exact cause of the chopper crash that claimed the lives of six people.

They also confirmed that there were people who were injured following the deadly incident.

Mother can't find daughter after Mwihoko crash

At the same time, a woman was seen crying uncontrollably after her daughter went missing during the chaos that occurred after the chopper crash.

The mum, who was overwhelmed with emotions, was captured in a video being carried away from the accident scene and brought to an ambulance van.

She could be heard wailing, asking for the whereabouts of her child as people around her captured the moment using their mobile phones.

A woman rushed to the distraught mother, trying to console her as the woman wept in pain, not knowing where to start looking for her child.

Onlookers who were gathered at the scene watched helplessly with their faces clouded with grief, probably wondering how they would assist the mother.

Kenyans online took to their social media platforms to sympathise with the woman. Others offered prayers to the lady, asking God to protect her child.
