Sorrow as Rongo University Student Diagnosed with Kidney Failure Dies While Receiving Treatment

The Rongo University community is mourning the sudden death of Purity Anyango Aluoch, a dedicated student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Journalism.

She passed away on the morning of Thursday, May 29, after being admitted for treatment.
Dean of Students recounts last conversation with Aluoch
According to a statement by the Dean of Students, Anyango had been battling an acute kidney infection for the past two weeks.
Her passing has deeply affected her peers and mentors, particularly those in the School of Information, Communication and Media Studies (Infocoms), where she was known for her vibrant spirit and passion for media.
“She had such a hunger to learn and grow in journalism. I remember our conversation during a school trip to Nairobi; she told me she wanted to become a great journalist in the future,” recalled one of the press members at the university.
When did Aluoch sit for her KCSE?
Born on August 18, 2004, in Sirunga village, Yala Division, Siaya county, Aluoch was the daughter of Rodgers Oluoch Opiche and Dorothy Akinyi Godia.
She completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 at Wambasa Girls Secondary School and had just begun her academic journey in media studies at Rongo University.
The university has confirmed that her body is preserved at Rang’ala Mission Hospital Mortuary. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Rongo University Writers Club mourn Aluoch
Her former classmates and members of the RU Writers Club have felt the loss profoundly.
Arnold Adidi, a reporter at Cape Media, shared:
“May God grant our departed sister eternal rest. Let us stand with her family and offer our prayers and support.”
Anthony Achayo, a fellow journalist and alumnus, expressed his disbelief:
“You may think death is far until it knocks on your door. As a club, we have lost a passionate member who had a bright future. My condolences go to her family, friends, and the RU Writers Club.”
Former Rongo University students mourn Aluoch
Albert Ouma, one of the mentors at the school, confirmed that her father had earlier disclosed her medical condition.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our members. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time,” he said.
As tributes continue to pour in, fellow student Denis Oluoch summed up the sorrow felt across campus:
“Where is the sting of death? We are losing so many. Rest easy, comrade.”
