The two little girls reportedly died after their 26-year-old mother, Mary Mushi, allegedly stabbed them in the stomach.

What happened to Mary Mushi’s children?

Mary’s father-in-law, Nicholas Kileka, recounted the horrific incident, noting that he had left early in the morning and dropped one of the children, Glory, whom he lives with, to be with her mother as he headed to work.

While going about his daily activities, Nicholas received a phone call at 1pm informing him that he needed to urgently return home.

“I got home, and people were crying. Upon entering the room, I saw my grandchildren dead on the bed. The eldest, a four-year-old, had been stabbed twice in the chest and stomach, while the other had been stabbed once in the stomach,” he explained.

He added that the mother was also lying beside the children with three stab wounds.

“We thought they were all dead, and amid the wailing and panic, someone realised that Mary was still alive. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid before being transferred to another hospital for surgery,” Nicholas narrated.

The devastated grandfather shared that Mary was now out of danger and recovering well in the hospital.

He said his son, the father of the deceased girls, was completely shaken and appeared lost.

Nicholas added that he could only respond to greetings before zoning out due to the overwhelming shock and grief.

Why did Tanzanian mum kill her children?

The grieving man said he was unaware of what could have led his daughter-in-law to commit such a grievous act.

“She comes home every evening to prepare food for us. I never suspected any arguments between her and my son,” he said.

However, Nicholas stated that according to the police report, Mary disagreed with her husband, allegedly after discovering he was having an affair.

Police revealed that this was based on messages retrieved from her phone, exchanged between the couple.

The elderly man urged young people to seek advice when experiencing marital problems, rather than taking matters into their own hands.

“These two are both soft-spoken and reserved, you’d never guess what was going on in their lives. I’m shocked this had to happen to them,” he added.
